The Professional Pyramid
- Top 10–20%: These are the torchbearers. They live their profession. They're the surgeons reading journals after midnight, the engineers rewriting protocols, the teachers who refuse to let any student fall behind. Their work isn’t just a paycheck—it’s personal.
- Bottom 20%: This is where the real danger lies. People in this tier aren’t just underperforming—they’re actively harmful. In industries like healthcare, aviation, or infrastructure, this tier doesn’t just fail—it kills, breaks, and bankrupts.
- Middle 60%: The bulk of the workforce. Competent, consistent, and routine-driven. They show up, do what’s asked, and go home. It’s a job, not a mission. And for decades, that was enough.
But "enough" is shifting.
Phase 1: The Cull
AI’s first role will be surgical. It will identify and eliminate the bottom 20%—those who are careless, complacent, or criminally negligent. This isn’t dystopian. It’s progress. Lives will be saved. Processes will be streamlined. Errors once written off as “human” will no longer be tolerated. The first wave of AI is not a threat—it’s a rescue mission.
This is AI's gift to society: a floor. A baseline of competence that no human can fall beneath again.
Phase 2: The Disruption No One Wants to Admit
Once the bottom is cut, the scalpel turns upward. And this is where things get personal.
AI doesn’t dream, but it learns. Fast. It ingests what the best do and distributes it without ego or exhaustion. That means the “above average”—the ones who stayed late, took pride, and refined their edge—will start seeing that edge dulled. Not because they got worse, but because the bar moved.
It’s not just automation. It’s assimilation.
And this group will push back, not out of laziness, but betrayal. They gave more. They became more. And now, their effort isn’t rare—it’s replicable.
Phase 3: The Existential Mirror
This is where the delusion ends.
In a capitalist framework, survival has always hinged on one thing: adaptation. Not seniority. Not sentiment. Not sacrifice.
Many will wake up to find they weren’t climbing—they were standing still. The terrain beneath them just shifted.
The lesson isn’t about fearing AI. It’s about understanding the role we all play in a system that rewards progress over comfort. This technology isn’t cruel—it’s indifferent. And indifference is what makes it honest.
